Une attaque de requin a eu lieu à Sainte-Rose au niveau de l'embouchure de la Rivière de l'Est, ce mercredi 30 janvier 2019, à 9h15. Un pêcheur de bichiques (alevins), âgé de 41 ans a eu la jambe gauche arrachée et est décédé avant l'arrivée des secours. Il s'agit de la dixième attaque mortelle de squales depuis 2011. La Préfecture a déclenché la procédure "post-attaque". Ce dispositif prévoit la réalisation d'opérations de pêche ciblées aux alentours immédiats du lieu de l'attaque pour une durée de 72 heures.
